Thankful Tree

DIY Thankful Tree

House & Home

This season provokes us to think about what we are thankful for. While I hope to have a posture of gratitude throughout all 12 months, I welcome any reminder toward it. This year, I was thinking through ways I could do just that, but only for me and Mike; not everyone else. I’ve been seeing the idea of “thankful trees” popping up over the past few years. So I thought I’d make one of our own!

It was so easy to make and the only purchase I made were these adorable leaf tags! I wanted to share it with you, thinking it would be a fun little project to do with your kids, grandkids, housemates, or spouse.

Let’s start at the beginning. First, gather your supplies. You’ll need some sort of vase or container – bonus if it’s one you already own! I get so much use out of my ceramic vase that I found at Target a few years ago.

Then you need something to hang your thankful “leaves” from. You can use something as simple as branches from your yard, which is what I did. It’s not perfect, but this would be a fun adventure to do with your kids – go look for sticks! I also like the idea of finding branches you can use year after year. Check out your local craft store where there are so many options.

And then of course you need your “leaves” to write on. I found these leaf tags on Amazon! They come in a 100-pack with various leaf types, so we can use any extras we have for next year. Any gift tag with a string would work! I like these also.

To give it some “grounding” on my table, I placed my vase on top of one of my favorite trays which is also the perfect place to hold the extra leaves awaiting to be hung!

Thankful Tree Final

Each time we think of something we’re thankful for, we’ll be writing it on a leaf to hang on our thankful tree! It’s so simple and anyone can do it, friends! And we hope it will encourage your family – along with ours – to look at the blessings around you this season. Every gift has been given from the Lord – the lungs that breathe the air He created, the ability to write and be creative, the roof above our heads, the relationships around us – and everything above and below. All glory be to God!

Here are the first things I wrote:

  • Coffee!
  • Our home
  • Slow days off
  • Life with Mike
  • New mercies every morning
  • Ephesians 2:4-10

Thankful Tree

I’m thankful for you, my Redeeming Hampton community! Thank you for your encouragement and for joining us on this journey. There is much to be thankful for and I’m glad to share it with you.

If you try out a thankful tree, whether it be like mine or a version of your own, please share it with me! I’d love to see it!
