Our 1970s basement update is coming along (very) slowly, but surely. I’ve been dreaming of the type of space our basement will be with ideas swirling around in my head. Something that’s helpful to me is compiling my ideas into one place – Pinterest helps with that! In addition, piecing everything together on one document also helps me visualize how everything will work together. While we won’t be purchasing everything at once, I like having a longer-term plan! And that’s what I’m sharing with you today. Behold, my basement inspiration board!
Paint Colors
Overall color scheme will include whites, grays/greiges, black fixtures and accents, greenery, navy/blues and wood tones. These are a few paint colors we’re considering:
- Walls:
- Built-In Cabinets:
- Trim + Doors:

- Round Pedestal Table and Chairs:
- * Target Metal Cross Back Bistro Chairs

- I found a wood pedestal on Facebook Marketplace for $25. It’s not in great shape, but nothing a good sanding and painting would help! I’ll be DIY’ing the update, so stay tuned for that! Facebook Marketplace, yard sales, craigslist, and any resale site are awesome resources if you’re looking for something specific, especially if you’re willing to do a little bit of updating!
- Other Seating:
- Fixtures:
- DIY Stair Makeover:
- Media Console:
- Safety and Tech:
- Dehumidifier
- 6 Foot Snake Sandbag Water Blockade
- We purchased these and placed them near our floor drain in our unfinished basement area to protect our walls from potential water damage. They were so simple and an inexpensive preventive measure!
- LG 49-inch 4K Ultra HD Smark LED TV
- Simple TV Mount
- Wall Outlet / Cable Management for Flat Screen Television
- Bose Speaker System
- Pioneer Subwoofer
