Hey there, friends! It feels like it’s been awhile since I’ve written a full post. I’ve been rocking out those gift guides just for you guys – I hope you’ve enjoyed them! Typically home bloggers have their spaces decorated for Christmas by like mid-September (ha), but that was not us this year! I totally understand, because so many people are looking to them for inspiration and people like to plan ahead. But, Mike and I were trying to soak in the season in front of us – especially Thanksgiving. There’s so much to be thankful for and we desire the space to reflect on those things.
You may already be done decorating your home for Christmas, or perhaps you’re still looking for ideas! Either way, we’re thrilled to share our home with you. But before I begin welcoming you into our home, I want to remind us that this season isn’t about having the perfect decorations or about the things we buy or receive as gifts. It’s all about celebrating the birth of Jesus – that He is Emmanuel, which means God with us – and longing for Him to come again.
Since I was a teenager, I’ve dreamed about having a home of my own to decorate for the seasons, especially Christmas. It’s been so much fun to have this dream become a reality. It’s not perfect and it’s not extravagant, but we love that it’s our home where we can share life and this season together (plus it’s full of all the magical twinkly lights that give us all the heart-eyes)!
The Family Room
We’ll start in the room you first see when you walk in the front door. If you’ve been following along for a while, you might notice a familiar piece of furniture in a new spot: this old dresser! It was formerly in our dining room acting as a buffet, but with much effort, Mike and I moved it and we’ve got to say, we love it here! Plus, it was fun to decorate for the first time. 😉
PRINT / GARLAND / REMOTE CONTROL TWINKLE LIGHTS / TREES
I went with a simple bannister this year. I was torn between this buffalo check ribbon, red, or white, so I polled you guys over on my Instagram; and you rocked the vote, so buffalo check it is! Thank you for voting!
RIBBON / GARLAND / TWINKLE LIGHTS
This view has been my jam, friends! Especially under my new favorite cozy blanket with a movie or our “fireplace” on the television! 😉 This year, I also kept it simple on the mantle. I tucked in extra pieces of eucalyptus that I also used for my fall dining tablescape. The twinkle lights are the real winner here. I found them on Amazon in a four pack and get this: they come with remotes and 8 lighting options!
RUG / CANDLE HOLDERS / GARLAND / TWINKLE LIGHTS
BELL / MARBLE COASTERS / GRAY BLANKET / WHITE BLANKET
Each year we try to add to our decoration collection so it’s not everything at once and two years ago, it was this tree! We went with this un-lit tree from Target and just added lights ourselves. It’s definitely a slower process, but we’ve had one too many pre-lit trees turn “un-lit!”
Listen friends, each year I’m the girl waiting until the night before Christmas to wrap gifts. Anyone else? But this year, I rocked it out early – the tape and ribbon and paper were flyin’!
CHRISTMAS TREE / SHATTER PROOF ORNAMENTS
WRAPPING PAPER / TAGS / RIBBON
This year, my investments were the garlands aaaaand pillows. 😉 Gosh, I love this little collection! The plaid and sweater pillows are both from HomeGoods, so I don’t have a link for you, but I will tag the green velvet pillow cover.
The Dining Room
Our family room is right beside our dining room, which we should really just call the puzzle or game room since we rarely eat dinner at this table! 😉
MIRRORS / BUFFALO CHECK PILLOW COVER
If you were following along on my InstaStories yesterday, you saw the start of this little project: a DIY canvas print! I’ve had this literal blank canvas for 5+ years, so I decided it was time to make something for our home. If you want to see more details, you can see the process on my InstaStories; I’ve saved them under the featured stories.
COMMAND STRIPS FOR HANGING PHOTOS / BUFFALO CHECK PILLOW COVER
We’re in the middle of updating our dining room and this old filing cabinet has been such a game changer! I painted it with chalk paint (a post coming about that soon; stay tuned) and added new hardware. It’s been a great spot to serve food and drinks as well as extra storage and we’re planning on using it for extra pantry space (organization, a new year’s goal)!
On the buffet, I used an old garland and dressed it up – I love how it turned out! My sister gave me this adorable print as an early Christmas gift so I could enjoy it and I put it in a frame I already had – a quote from Elf! How perfect.
PLATTER / TWINKLE LIGHTS / BEADED GARLAND
The Kitchen
If you could guess, we kept it simple in the kitchen too! 😉 I used the wreaths I’ve had since college and added a ribbon to the windows and above the stove. It’s basic, but beautiful!
THIS, my friends, is where we share most of our meals!
SMALL SHOP CUTTING BOARD / STOOLS
The corner where our shelves hang gets pretty dim, so perhaps I can just keep the twinkle lights up all year? 😉 Little additions make this space so festive!
The Half Bath
It’s nothing extravagant, but I used some of my leftover decorations in here since we host so many guests over the holidays!
If you’re looking for an affordable way to update a space, put your favorite wrapping paper in a frame and call it a day!
The Bedroom
I saved my favorite for last! Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve always dreamed of decorating my house for Christmas and that includes my bedroom. Since we invested in new garland in the family room this year, I brought up an old wreath and garland to put around my bed frame (Which is from Amazon by the way! We love it!).
And guys – check out that new rug! We’ve been saving for one for awhile (rugs are a big purchase), but we took advantage of an awesome deal from Boutique Rugs and let’s just say, Mike and I are obsessed! It really softens the room and brings everything together. Here’s a link to my exact rug.
That’s a wrap friends! I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour and hope it has encouraged you to love your own home! Remember, it’s a process; not a sprint and it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful! Merry Christmas and have a wonderful holiday season!
Love,
Kristin and Mike
